MATCH3D Post production Reflection ~ Charles Shoemaker
POST PRODUCTION REFLECTION
The idea started with researching social issues linked to dating apps, especially safety and deception. The goal was to show how online interaction can hide real intent.
Planning involved writing a short script, mapping scenes, and deciding the twist ending early. Storyboards helped structure key moments like Nova & Damien's first message exchange, Damien arriving at the house, and the final reveal.
Filming focused on simple locations (Novas home) to create realism. Most scenes used a single house setting to build tension. Lighting and camera angles were planned to shift tone, with brighter lighting during texting scenes & when they meet, then darker/red tones when the twist happens.
During editing, pacing became the main focus. Longer pauses were added to build suspense. Sound effects like notification tones were used to make the digital interaction feel more real, and to fully immerse the audience. Some original footage was cut because it slowed the tension in the middle section.
Problems included keeping continuity in the messaging screenshots and maintaining consistent lighting across scenes. These were solved by reshooting small sections and using editing adjustments.
Each stage changed the final outcome. The planning stage shaped the twist ending. Filming choices shaped the atmosphere. Editing shaped tension and audience engagement. Skills improved in pacing, visual storytelling, and use of sound to create mood.
